Virtual Firewall Software Works on Virtual Appliances
A virtual firewall is software-based network security that runs on a virtual machine (VM) and performs the same functions as a traditional hardware firewall—but without the physical infrastructure.
It acts as a gatekeeper between different parts of your network, inspecting, filtering, and controlling traffic between your public virtual WAN (vWAN)—such as internet-facing connections—and your private virtual LAN (vLAN)—your internal network and resources.

How Virtual Firewalls Are Installed on Virtual Machines
Create a Virtual Machine on the VMBYTE platform.
● Select an ISO image of pfSense, OPNsense, or upload any preferred firewall software.
● Assign two or more virtual network interfaces:
● One connected to the public vWAN
● One (or more) connected to internal vLANs
● Boot the VM and install the firewall OS.
● Access the firewall’s web-based interface to configure settings and rules.
VMBYTE Makes It Simple
● Pre-built virtual firewall templates (like pfSense and OPNsense) for quick, hassle-free setup.
● We Support Bring Your Own Firewall Appliance (BYOFA)—use your preferred firewall solution.
● Easy VM creation and vWAN/vLAN network configuration.
● A powerful yet intuitive cloud control panel to manage all your networking and security.
Whether you're protecting a small dev environment or managing complex enterprise infrastructure, VMBYTE gives you the tools and flexibility to deploy virtual firewalls efficiently and securely.
Securing Networks with Rules & Policies
Once installed, virtual firewall software allows you to define custom security policies, such as:
● Blocking/allowing traffic by IP address, port, or protocol
● Limiting access by geographic location (GeoIP filtering)
● Setting bandwidth limits for specific users or applications
● Creating VPN tunnels for secure remote access
● Automatically detecting and blocking threats with IDS/IPS
These rules ensure only authorized traffic reaches your cloud services—keeping systems secure and performance optimized.
